Australian Robert Allenby completed a second-round 64 on Saturday to head into the third round of the St. Jude Classic one shot off the lead of Brian Gay.
Gay had finished his 66 on Friday before thunderstorms halted play for a 10-under total of 130.
Allenby had to play his last three holes of the second round to get to a 36-hole total of 131, with the third round starting almost immediately after completion of the second.
American Phil Mickelson, playing for the first time since revealing his wife, Amy, has cancer, also played out the final three holes of his second round for a 70.
He birdied his first hole of the day, but closed with a bogey and a double-bogey at 18 that left him on 138.
Americans Bryce Molder (63) and Vaughn Taylor (65) were at 132.
John Daly finished his second round on Friday, but had to wait overnight to see if he made the cut in the 6.1 million-dollar event. He did, right on the cut line at even-par 140 as did Australian Nick O'Hern.
Among the players who didn't make the weekend in the last tune-up before next week's US Open championship at Bethpage Black were Spain's Sergio Garcia and Ireland's Padraig Harrington, winner of the British Open and PGA Championship last year.
