Golfers Noh, Khan among special invitees to PGA Championship

England's Simon Khan, South Korean Noh Seung-Yul and Spain's Gonzalo Fernandez-Castro were among players who received special invitations on Monday into next week's PGA Championship.

The PGA of America filled the 156-man field for the year's final major tournament at Whistling Straits with the special invitations and others to US 2008 Ryder Cup players Ben Curtis and Boo Weekley.

While Justin Leonard, another US Ryder Cup player from the victory over Europe two years ago, fell one spot out of the top 100, he claimed a spot in the field on a list of prize money earned since last year's PGA Championship.

South Korean Yang Yong-Eun will defend the first major crown won by an Asian man on August 12-15.

World number one Tiger Woods, who battled Yang down the stretch before losing his first major when leading after 54 holes, will also try to win his first title since a sex scandal last November shattered his iconic image.

Two remaining vacant berths in the PGA Championship are being reserved for possibly not already qualified winners of this week's US events, the World Golf Championships Bridgestone Invitational and PGA Turning Stone Championship.

The top two players on the alternate list are American D.J. Trahan and Australian Matt Jones.
