Rocco Mediate has accepted a place in the US Open golf championship which became available when England's Lee Westwood won the St. Jude Classic on Sunday.
Westwood was already in the field for the second major of the year, which starts on Thursday at Pebble Beach Golf Links.
The one spot was held open for any player who won multiple PGA Tour sanctioned events between June 21, 2009 and June 13, 2010.
When no new player qualified via that route on Sunday Mediate, who shot 67-70 for 137 in the sectional qualifier in Columbus, Ohio, on June 7, got the call as first alternate.
Mediate has played in 14 previous US Opens, including a runner-up finish in an epic playoff against Tiger Woods at Torrey Pines in 2008.
